  • Tie Summary

The two nations have met on five occasions with Sweden leading the series 4-1. Russia won the most recent tie, however, a 4-1 victory en route to lifting the trophy for the first time in 2002.

That was one of two Davis Cup triumphs for Russia, the second coming in 2007. Sweden is also a former champion, winning the title seven times between 1975 and 1998.

Sweden retained its place in Davis Cup’s top tier for the 11th straight year by edging past Italy 3-2 at home in the World Group play-offs.

Russia’s last outing was a 3-2 home defeat to Argentina in the World Group quarterfinals. David Nalbandian was the hero for the visitors, winning the decisive fifth rubber for the second straight tie.
