  • Tie Summary

Czech Republic and newly promoted Kazakhstan are meeting for the first time.

Czech Republic has enjoyed a successful spell in recent times, having been a finalist in 2009 and semifinalist in 2010. Jaroslav Navratil’s team will be hoping to go all the way in this campaign.

The Czechs – then Czechoslovakia – won the title for the only time in 1980. Ivan Lendl and Tomas Smid led the side to a 4-1 home win over Italy in the Final.

Kazakhstan is playing in Davis Cup’s top tier for the first time after gaining promotion with a comprehensive 5-0 win over Switzerland in the World Group play-offs.
