  • Tie Summary

Argentina won the only previous meeting between the two nations, a 3-2 away victory in the World Group quarterfinals in 1981.

Argentina’s last outing was in the World Group semifinals, losing to France 5-0 in Lyon. The evergreen David Nalbandian had been the hero in the early rounds, winning the decisive fifth rubber in the team’s first two ties against Sweden and Russia, but he couldn’t replicate these performances against France.

After relegation ended a seven-year stay in the World Group, Romania secured an immediate return to the elite 16 in 2010. Andrei Pavel’s team hammered Ecuador 5-0 at home in the World Group play-offs.

Argentina and Romania, alongside India, share the unenviable record of being the only nations to have appeared in multiple Davis Cup Finals without being crowned champion.
