  • Tie Summary

This will be the first time that these two countries meet in Davis Cup.

South Africa´s captain John-Laffnie De Jager has made it clear that his main objective is being part of the World Group next year. In order to acess the World Group playoffs, De Jager fielded a very powerful team to face the Netherlands that included South Africa´s No. 1 player Kevin Anderson. The Dutch were looking in good shape after their No. 1 player Robin Haase took the first point for the Europeans. However, Kevin Anderson became the hero of the tie by winning his two singles rubbers and also the doubles in partnership with Rik de Voest.

Croatia is facing the playoff after being defeated by Germany 3-2 in the World Group first round in Zagreb. The tie went to the fifth rubber in which Philipp Petzschner defeated Ivo Karlovic in straight sets and clinched the decisive third point.

Croatia has spent 9 of the last 10 years in the World Group while South Africa played in the top tier for the last time in 1998.
