News from the tie

  • Tie Summary

Finland and Poland will try to avoid relegation to Group II in this Group I playoff that will be held in Espoo, Finland. The countries have met 5 times in Davis Cup resulting in 3 victories for Finland and 1 for Poland.

Finland lost to Slovenia 3-2 away in the Europe/Africa Zone Group I first round. The tie was decided in the fifth rubber when Grega Zemlja overcame Micke Kontinen in four sets.

Poland lost to Israel 3-2 in the Europe/Africa Zone Group I second round in Ramat Hasharon. The hosts raced into a 3-0 lead after Dudi Sela and debutante Amir Weintraub won the opening singles rubbers, paving the way for the doubles duo of Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich to clinch the vital third point.

Neither Finland nor Poland have ever reached the World Group. The Polish have spent the last three years in Group I while Finland was promoted from Group II last year.
