Brazil have chosen the Harmonia Tenis Clube as the venue for their World Group play-off tie against Russia having won their only previous tie there against Colombia in the previous round. Russia won the only previous meeting which occurred at the same stage of the competition last year when they overcame a 2-1 deficit on the final day to win in Kazan.
Brazil have been perennial visitors to the World Group play-offs having experienced defeat in each of the last six years and are looking to reach the pinnacle of the World Group for the first time since 2003. Colombia were the latest Americas Zone Group I victims when they were seen off comfortably by a Brazilian side led by Thomasz Bellucci in April.
Russia find themselves in the play-offs after losing away to Austria in the first round of World Group competition. Whilst it is their second consecutive year of play-offs they have been regulars in the top level of competition having last played in Europe/Africa Zone Group I in 1992.
