Italy face Chile in the World Group play-offs having not lost to the South American nation in five previous ties, including a 4-1 victory in Santiago at the same stage of the competition last year. The tie will be played at the Tennis Club Napoli, which has not staged a Davis Cup match since 1995.
The Italian team are bidding to retain their place in the World Group having only been promoted in 2011. In their first tie at the top level of competition in over a decade Italy were defeated heavily by Czech Republic 4-1 in February with Simone Bolleli scoring their only point in the dead fifth rubber.
Chile are attempting to make an immediate return to the World Group having been relegated by Italy last year. Paul Capdeville played a part of all three of Chile’s points in the their last tie against Uruguay wrapping up a 3-1 victory in the first reverse singles to book their place in the play-offs.
