  • Tie Summary

Canada and Spain have met on just one previous occasion in Davis Cup competition back in 1991 when Spain came out on top in a 4-1 victory in Murcia thanks to Sergio Bruguera and Emilio Sanchez.

The Canadian side were making their first appearance in the World Group for eight years last season and were made to work hard to keep their place in the elite. Having lost in the first round to a strong French team they maintained their position thanks to a home success against South Africa in the World Group play-offs.

Spain are have put together one of the most dominating periods in Davis Cup history reaching the Final once again in 2012. Much of their success, however, has been on home soil with ten of their last 14 ties being played in front of their own fans where they have been impressively dominant. On this occasion they must travel across the Atlantic which could pose different problems.
