Belgium can lay claim to the only victory in meetings with Serbia, which came in 2005 in Belgrade. In that tie a young Novak Djokovic lost both his singles rubbers against Olivier Rochus and, more importantly, the decisive fifth rubber versus Kristof Vliegen.
Belgium are making a swift reappearance in the World Group having been gained promotion from Europe/Africa Zone Group I at the first attempt last year. Having beaten Great Britain they then whitewashed Sweden in the play-offs losing just a single set across the five rubbers.
Serbia failed to overcome the absence of their star player, Djokovic, during the 2012 Davis Cup and they were defeated in the quarterfinals against Czech Republic with only Janko Tipsarevic able to score a point as Tomas Berdych completed a hat-trick of victories.
