  • Tie Summary

Colombia host Uruguay in this Americas Zone Group I second round tie, with the winners progressing to a World Group play-off. This will be the thirteenth meeting between these two nations and the head-to-head record is currently level at six wins each.

Colombia received a bye into the second round, so this will be their first match of the year. Their last match was exactly a year ago, when they lost 4-1 to Brazil in the Zone Group I second round. They will be hoping to go one stage better this year and have the opportunity to compete for a World Group place.

Uruguay made it through to the second round following a 3-1 victory over Dominican Republic in front of their own fans. Marcel Felder was Uruguay's hero in this tie, winning both of his singles rubbers and partnering Ariel Behar to win the doubles. As an added bonus for Felder, he also received a Davis Cup Commitment Award during the tie.
