    Sri Lanka host Pakistan in the first round of Asia/Oceania Zone Group II having never beaten them in five previous meetings. The most recent of these was a 4-1 victory for Pakistan represented by Mohammed Khalid and Mohammad Khaliq Siddiq in Lahore.

    Sri Lanka staved off an immediate return to Group III when they defeated Hong Kong, China in their relegation play-off. Harshana Godamanna was involved in all three points for Sri Lanka in a 3-2 victory teaming with Rajeev Rajapakse for the doubles.

    Pakistan lost in the semifinal of Asia/Oceania Zone Group II for the fourth consecutive year in 2012. Having beaten Lebanon in the first round they the travelled to the Philippines where they were on the wrong end of a whitewash as they didn’t even take a single set over the weekend.
