Portugal are back in Zone Group II after being relegated from Zone Group I in 2012 at the hands of Slovak Republic. Portugal will be desperate to gain promotion as quickly as possible and return to Zone Group I.
Benin earned promotion to Zone Group II for the first time with a 2-1 win over Zimbabwe in the final round of Zone Group III. They won all of their matches in 2012, only dropping two rubbers in four matches.
