  • Tie Summary

China P.R. and Chinese Taipei meet for the third consecutive season in Davis Cup and the fifth time overall. China levelled the playing field to two wins apiece by winning their last two Group I meetings. Last year the two nations met at exactly this stage and Di Wu saved China’s place in Group I in a fifth decisive rubber. Chinese Taipei went on to face New Zealand in the group relegation decider and won.

China lost to Uzbekistan inside two days in the opening round of this year’s Group I and so face a relegation play-off for the second consecutive year. They lost Group I status at the end of 2007 and fought back in Group II the following year before returning to Group I in 2009, where they currently remain to this day.

Chinese Taipei fell to Australia 5-0 in their opening tie of the season - the fourth year in a row they have lost their Group I first round tie. Last year they were forced to go all the way to the final relegation battle before salvaging their place in Group I. The last time they were in the lower tier of Group II was in 2003.
