  • Tie Summary

India and Indonesia will meet in the Asia/Oceania Zone Group I play-off first round. Both will be desperate to win and not face the final round of relegation. The teams have met on five previous occasions, with India winning all five ties. However, the last time they played was in 1992.

India find themselves in the relegation play-off first round after suffering a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Korea. The vast majority of India's top players did not play which meant that India faced a very difficult task. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to win a singles rubber, their only victory coming in the doubles which featured Leander Paes.

Indonesia are in the relegation play-offs after they lost 5-0 to Japan in the first round. Facing a team of players ranked much higher than their own, the Indonesians found themselves 0-2 down after the first day. They fought back in the doubles, at one point holding a 2 sets to 1 lead, but were unable to hold on. Japan completed the whitewash on the final day and condemned Indonesia to fight against relegation.
