  • Tie Summary

Austria travel to Netherlands for this World Group play-off with the knowledge that they have a good record in this part of the competition, with 8 wins from 9 ties. It will be only the second time these two nations have met. Netherlands won the first meeting 3-0 in 1928.

Netherlands earned their place in the World Group play-off when they comfortably overcame Romania 5-0 in the Europe/Africa Zone Group I second round. Netherlands have lost their last two play-offs but won eight consecutively between 1991 and 2006.

Austria find themselves trying to avoid relegation following a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Kazakhstan in the World Group first round. Austria are no strangers to the play-offs, having taken part in nine of the last 10 years.
