  • Tie Summary

This year's World Group play-off will be the first time that Japan and Colombia have met in Davis Cup. Both teams will want to win the opening encounter and book a place in next year's World Group.

Japan were pushed all the way by Korea, Rep. in their Asia/Oceania Zone Group I second round clash, but it was Japan who prevailed in the fifth rubber and earned a place in this year's play-off.

Having received a bye in the first round, Colombia knew that victory over Uruguay would see them in the play-offs, and they achieved it in sensational style, winning 5-0. Colombia have never competed in the World Group but they will be hopeful of making their debut next year.
