  • Tie Summary

Two-time defending champions Czech Republic kicked off their 2014 campaign with a comfortable win against World Group newcomers Netherlands.

Robin Haase gave the Dutch team an early glimmer of hope when he defeated Radek Stepanek, the Czech hero from the 2013 final, in five sets in the first rubber. However, Tomas Berdych levelled the tie with a straight sets singles victory, before he and Stepanek added to their impressive doubles resumé by beating Haase and Jean-Julien Rojer. Berdych wrapped up the tie in the fourth rubber, easing to victory against Thiemo de Bakker, and sending the Czechs safely through.
