France play host to Australia in a first meeting between the two sides since the 2001 Davis Cup Final in Melbourne.
Two of the most successful nations in the history of the competition, France has won Davis Cup nine times and Australia a staggering 28 but neither nation has lifted the coveted trophy since the southern hemisphere side was crowned champion in 2003.
Australia leads the all-time head-to-head between the two nations 10-4 and also has the edge in World Group encounters (5-3) and the Australians even won the last time they played on French soil, when they won the Davis Cup in 1999.
France has not lost a World Group first round tie since falling to Czech Republic in 2009 and is making its 16th consecutive World Group appearance in 2014. Australia, by contrast, is in the top tier for the first time in 2007, when they lost 3-2 to Belgium at this stage of the competition.
