Despite being led by the 'dream team' of Stanislas Wawrinka and Roger Federer, Switzerland had to dig deep to beat a resilient Kazakhstan team and progress to the semifinals for the first time since 2003.
Andrey Golubev pulled off the biggest win of his career in the first rubber, defeating Australian Open champion Wawrinka. Federer levelled the tie with a comfortable victory over Mikhail Kukushkin, but another surprise was to come in the doubles, as Golubev teamed up with Aleksandr Nedovyesov to beat the superstar team of 'Federinka'. With no more room for error, Wawrinka and Federer found some form to win their singles rubbers on Sunday and give the Swiss victory.
