France enjoyed a comprehensive victory over two-time defending champions Czech Republic. With home court advantage and a vociferous crowd backing them, Richard Gasquet and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga won both opening singles rubbers and then teamed up in the doubles to give France an unassailable 3-0 lead.
Gasquet was on top form in the opening rubber and defeated Tomas Berdych 63 62 63. Tsonga was next on, facing Lukas Rosol, and he too had little trouble earning a 62 62 63 win. The pair dropped the opening set of the doubles but recovered well for a 67(4) 64 76(5) 61 victory over Berdych and Radek Stepanek. The two nations split the dead rubbers, giving the French a 4-1 victory.
