World Group Play-off

The deadline for official team nominations is 10 days before the tie begins.

Tie preview

Croatia travel to Netherlands with a potential return to the World Group at stake in the two nations' first ever meeting in Davis Cup. The Croatians will be eager to return to the top level after just one year away, while Netherlands will be desperate to have another chance at making a mark in the World Group, following a difficult away tie against the two-time defending champions Czech Republic.

Marin Cilic and Borna Coric guided Croatia to an excellent away victory against a talented Polish team in Warsaw. The 17-year-old Coric was in particularly impressive form, defeating Wimbledon semifinalist Jerzy Janowicz in five sets to put the Croatians in a commanding position by the end of the first day. After narrowly losing the doubles in five sets, Cilic came from two sets down against Janowicz to win and seal a memorable team victory. For its part, the Dutch team were handed possibly the hardest possible draw for the first round of this year's competition. While Robin Haase did win the opening rubber, the Dutch struggled against Tomas Berdych, who won both of his singles rubbers and the doubles, partnering Radek Stepanek, to leave Netherlands fighting to remain in the World Group.
