    Group II newcomers Vietnam were defeated at home by Pakistan in a tie moved to mid-February in order to avoid a clash with celebrations for Chinese New Year. Aqeel Khan and Thien Nguyen Hoang both recorded straight sets wins to leave the teams even after the first day. Khan and Aisam Qureshi then took the doubles in four sets before Khan defeated Nguyen Hoang to keep Pakistan's hopes of a return to Zone Group I after an eight year absence alive.
