  • Tie Summary

Russia lost out to a talented Polish team in Moscow, and now must face relegation play-offs in order to remain at this level for next year. 2013 Wimbledon semifinalist Jerzy Janowicz got the tie off to an excellent start for Poland, recording a straight sets win against the 17-year-old Karen Khachanov, before Dmitry Tursunov won to level the tie. The experienced Polish pair of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski recovered from losing the opening set to secure a win over Khachanov and Konstantin Kravchuk in the doubles, and Janowicz was able to close out the tie in straight sets against Tursunov the following day. The Poles are now one tie away from a place in the World Group play-offs.
