  • Tie Summary

Blaz Kavcic was the hero in Kranj as he contributed to three straight sets wins to send Slovenia through to the next round, where the team will compete for a place in the World Group play-offs later this year. Joao Sousa got Portugal off to a good start, with a relatively straightforward win against Janez Semrajc, but Kavcic hit back, beating Gastao Elias, which included an epic 30-point-long first set tie-break. Kavcic and Grega Zemlja then took the doubles rubber, before a victory in the first reverse singles rubber did the job for Slovenia. Portugal must now win a relegation play-off to remain at this level in 2015.
