    Blaz Kavcic was the hero in Kranj as he contributed to three straight sets wins to send Slovenia through to the next round, where the team will compete for a place in the World Group play-offs later this year. Joao Sousa got Portugal off to a good start, with a relatively straightforward win against Janez Semrajc, but Kavcic hit back, beating Gastao Elias, which included an epic 30-point-long first set tie-break. Kavcic and Grega Zemlja then took the doubles rubber, before a victory in the first reverse singles rubber did the job for Slovenia. Portugal must now win a relegation play-off to remain at this level in 2015.
