  • Tie Summary

Sergiy Stakhovsky recorded two good wins as Ukraine edged past Romania in Dnipropetrovsk. A simple victory for Stakhovsky over Adrian Ungur was followed by an excellent five set win for Ukraine's Illya Marchenko against the higher-ranked Victor Hanescu, leaving Ukraine in control at the end of day one. Romania clawed its way back into the tie with a four set doubles win for Marius Copil and Horia Tecau, but Stakhovsky got the better of Hanescu to seal Ukraine's progress as it attempts to go one better than 2013 and reach the World Group for the first time.
