  • Tie Summary

Without Ernests Gulbis, their hero from the 2013 season, it was always going to be a huge challenge for the Latvians in an away tie against Slovak Republic. However, they put up a strong fight with Martins Podzus taking a set off Lukas Lacko, and Andis Juska pushing Martin Klizan all the way, finally going down 68 in the final set. At 2-0 up, the Slovak pair of Andrej Martin and Michal Mertinak knew they could relax, and this allowed them to play some high quality tennis in a four set victory which sees Slovak Republic progress to a tie against Austria in April, with a World Group play-off on offer for the winners.
