  • Tie Summary

Moldova produced a strong performance to defeat the Egyptians in Chisinau, with the combination of Radu Albot and Maxim Dubarenco coming up trumps against tough opposition. Mohamed Safwat had given Egypt a good start, with an emphatic victory over Dubarenco, before Albot levelled the tie at 1-1, winning after Karim Hossam was forced to retire at two sets to one down. Albot and Dubarenco then put in an extremely impressive doubles performance, losing only seven games and putting Moldova on the cusp of victory. It was left to Albot to record a four set triumph over Safwat to seal the tie for Moldovans, whose dreams of reaching Zone Group I for the first time remain alive. Egypt, on the other hand, must compete in a relegation play-off to stay in Zone Group II for 2015.
