Luxembourg will travel to Morocco in this first round Zone Group II tie. The two nations have met twice previously, with the Moroccans winning 5-0 in 1973, and Luxembourg coming out on top in the most recent tie with a 3-2 victory in 2005.
Following relegation in 2012, Morocco bounced straight back to Group II in 2013, winning all of their ties. After simple victories over Algeria and Cameroon in their round robin group, Morocco needed a win against Madagascar to win promotion. After wins for Yassine Idmbarek of Morocco and Antso Rakotondramanga of Madagascar, a victory in the doubles was essential. Younes Rachidi and Mehdi Ziadi came up with the goods, winning 63 62 to steer Morocco back to the higher tier.
A 1-4 defeat away in Bosnia/Herzegovina meant that, for the second year in a row, Luxembourg would have to compete a relegation play-off to stay in Zone Group II. Travelling to Hungary, the tie got off to a bad start as Ugo Nastasi was beaten in straight sets. However, Gilles Muller won both of his singles matches, and teamed up with Mike Scheidweiler to win the doubles, keeping Luxembourg in Group II for the fourth consecutive year.
