  • Tie Summary

Germany faced France in the first round for the second year in a row, and the result again went in France's favour, with the visitors winning with a day to spare in Frankfurt.

After the opening match went the distance, France won the next two rubbers in straight sets to cruise to victory after the doubles.

Germany's losing streak against France now extends to 77 years - the Germans have not defeated their European counterparts since 1938.
