There are four Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Zone Group II ties taking place this weekend with promotion at stake for the 2013 season. See below for updates from each tie.

Indonesia 1-1 Philippines

- Zone: Asia/Oceania
- Venue: Gelora Bung Karno Tennis Stadium
- Location: Jakarta, Indonesia
- Surface: Outdoor hard

The promotion clash in Jakarta is perfectly poised after Day 1 following wins for the No. 1 players from each team. Christopher Rungkat gave Indonesia an early lead, but Treat Huey responded to draw Philippines level.

Rungkat, the world No. 292, is the highest ranked singles player at this tie by some distance and showed that gulf in class in the day’s opening rubber against Francis Alcantara, who is yet to gain a world ranking.

The Indonesian No. 1 raced into a two-set lead as the match threatened to run away from his unranked opponent, but Alcantara rallied and fought back to take the third set, only for Rungkat to regain control. He eventually won 76(3) 62 36 60 in 2 hours 25 minutes.

Huey is a doubles specialist these days with a ranking of No. 39 in this form of the game. However, the 27-year-old returned to the singles court with great effect on Friday by defeating Elbert Sie 64 62 63 to bring the visitors level.

Saturday’s doubles rubber is scheduled to see the same two Indonesian players, Rungkat and Sie, teaming up against Philippine duo Ruben Gonzales and Jeson Patrombon, although it wouldn’t be a surprise if Huey is substituted into the line-up.

Latvia v Ukraine

- Zone: Europe/Africa
- Venue: Liepajas Olimpiskais Centrs
- Location: Liepaja, Latvia
- Surface: Indoor hard

Latvia and Ukraine have all to play for after there was nothing to choose between the two teams on the first day in Liepaja.

Ernests Gulbis earned the first point for the hosts with a 46 63 64 62 victory over Sergei Bubka before Sergiy Stakhovsky levelled proceedings with a 63 64 64 win against Andis Juska.

Poland v Belarus

- Zone: Europe/Africa
- Venue: Miejski Osrodek Sportu i Rekreacji
- Location: Lodz, Poland
- Surface: Indoor hard

Poland took a commanding lead in their tie against Belarus after straight set wins for both Lukasz Kubot and Jerzy Janowicz on day one.

Kubot eased past Dzmitry Zhyrmont 61 64 62 and Janowicz made similarly light work of Uladzimir Ignatik 76(4) 62 63 to put the hosts in a great position going into a tough doubles rubber that will feature Max Mirnyi for and Alexander Bury for the visitors against Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski for the home team.

Dominican Republic v Mexico

- Zone: Americas
- Venue: Centro Español Inc., Santiago de los Caballeros
- Location: Dominican Republic
- Surface: Outdoor clay

Dominican Republic will take a 2-0 lead into the second day against Mexico at the Centro Español after a fantastic effort by Jose Hernandez on day one.

Victor Estrella, star of so many Dominican ties, led his team into the lead with a 64 62 62 win against Daniel Garza in the first rubber before Hernandez found a way past Cesar Ramirez 62 67(6) 75 46 63.
