There are four Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Zone Group I ties taking place this weekend with the teams fighting to avoid relegation for the 2013 season. See below for updates from each tie.

India 1-0 New Zealand

- Zone: Asia/Oceania
- Venue: CLTA Tennis Stadium
- Location: Chandigarh, India
- Surface: Outdoor hard

India take a 1-0 overnight advantage into day two of their clash with New Zealand, from which the loser will meet Chinese Taipei next month in a fight against relegation.

The score is only 1-0 because - following rain interruptions - bad light forced play to be suspended after three sets of the second rubber between Indian No. 2 Vishnu Vardhan and Kiwi No. 1 Jose Statham. Vardhan was leading the encounter 62 67(2) 64 when the action stopped.

Earlier in the day, Indian youngster Yuki Bhambri scored his first ever live Davis Cup victory by coming from two sets down to sensationally defeat the experienced Daniel King-Turner 36 06 62 64 62, dealing a crushing blow to the visitors in the bargain.

Vardhan and Statham are scheduled to resume their contest at 10am in Chandigarh, while the doubles rubber will take place after suitable rest for Vardhan, who is due to team up with Divij Sharan against New Zealand pair Artem Sitak and Michael Venus.

Slovak Republic v Portugal

- Zone: Europe/Africa
- Venue: Aegon Arena
- Location: Bratislava, Slovak Republic
- Surface: Indoor hard

There's all to play for in Bratislava as Slovak Republic and Portugal ended the first day on one point each.

Martin Klizan, fresh from his giant killing run at the US Open, continued his good form with a 36 62 76(4) 62 victory over Gastao Elias in the opening rubber to give the hosts the early lead.

But Portugal are not going to go down without a fight and Joao Sousa dispatched Lukas Lacko 64 64 63 to ensure this tie will go into a third day.

Romania v Finland

- Zone: Europe/Africa
- Venue: Sala Sporturilor "Horia Demian" Cluj
- Location: Cluj-Napoca, Romania
- Surface: Indoor hard

It was a tale of two rubbers in Cluj-Napoca as Finland and Romania ended the first day all square at 1-1.

Jarkko Nieminen used all of his experience to find a way past Victor Crivoi 75 61 62 in the opening rubber before Marius Copil drew the hosts level with a hard-fought 36 64 62 64 victory against Harri Heliovaara.

Peru v Ecuador
