BARCELONA, SPAIN: The matches are done at the Junior Davis Cup and Junior Fed Cup Finals by BNP Paribas for Thursday and the players all quickly left the premises of the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona to get ready for the official player party this evening.

Thursday all signifies the final day of three in which the format play was round-robin with the 16 countries in each competition broken up into four groups.

The outcome of Thursday’s match results combined with the other results during the week set the lineup for the knock-out play-off part of the week. The nation who had the best overall score from each group compete in the semifinals, with the next best vying for positions 5-8, those that came in third going for spots 9-12, and the last in each group playing for slots 13-16.

In both competitions, the USA came in first in Group A and Australia also reached the boys’ semifinal from Group B and the girls’ semifinal from Group C. Both U.S. teams finished the three days of action with a perfect 3-0 record. The Aussie boys’ also went 3-0, but the girls’ went 2-1.

Rounding out the Fed Cup semifinals are Brazil, who finished on the top of Group B with a 2-1 round-robin result, and Russia, who like the USA went 3-0 in Group D. Rounding out the Davis Cup is France, who finished 3-0 in Group C and Italy who went 3-0 in Group D.

Team USA in the Fed Cup competition not only won their daily match-ups, but won all nine matches they’ve played. World No. 1 junior girl Taylor Townsend was active all three days in singles and doubles, partnering with good friend and frequent partner, Gaby Andrews. Louisa Chirico certainly is putting her name on the map by playing solid second singles behind Townsend.

The Russians also won all of their matches thus far, relying on the competence of Elizaveta Kulichkova, Daria Kasatkina and Alina Sliich, who mixed and matched their roles, although Kulichkova always played the No. 1 position.

In the Davis Cup, all four of the semifinal nations lost one match in the nine that they’ve played.
