The International Tennis Federation has confirmed that the 2013 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group first round tie between USA and Brazil will take place at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida on 1-3 February. The venue will have an expected capacity of approximately 13,000.

This will be the first time that Brazil plays in the World Group in nine years. Although the South Americans reached the World Group play-offs in seven occasions over this period, they always fell short of the final prize until they beat Russia this year in Sao Jose do Rio Preto.

On the other hand, USA will try to improve their remarkable performance in 2012 when they earned two difficult away wins against two tennis powerhouses like Switzerland and France. The team captained by Jim Courier was eventually defeated by the current champions Spain in the semi-finals.

This tie will be the first played at home by the Americans since their semi-final loss against Spain in Austin in 2012.

“There is nothing like playing Davis Cup in your home country and Jacksonville will be a great venue when we host Brazil next year,” said captain Jim Courier.  “We were very happy to draw a home match.  This could be a great opportunity for players like John (Isner), Sam (Querrey) and Ryan (Harrison) to experience a home court advantage for the first time in their Davis Cup careers.”

Brazil and USA have met in four previous occasions in the competition with the North Americans leading the overall series 3-1. The last tie between the two nations took place in 1997 when Jim Courier led USA to a 4-1 away win over Brazil.
