New Zealand defeated Lebanon 3-0

New Zealand has beaten Lebanon after a comfortable win in Saturday's doubles in Auckland. Marcus Daniell and Daniel King-Turner gave the home team an unassailable 3-0 lead with an emphatic 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 doubles win over Ibrahim Abou-Chahine and Karim Alayli.

New Zealand had already proved to be the stronger team with two devastasting singles wins on Friday for King-Turner and Artem Sitak and it soon became clear that there was to be no glorious fight-back from the visitors in the doubles. Daniell and King-Turner were rarely troubled en route to a three-set rout.

New Zealand will now play either Pakistan or Sri Lanka on April 5-7 in the hope of taking another step closer to promotion up to Asia/Oceania Zone Group I. Another win in April would take New Zealand to a play-off in 13-15 September.

Pakistan leads Sri Lanka 2-1

Pakistan capitalised on an early retirement to take a 2-1 advantage into the final day of singles on the clay of Colombo. Aqeel Khan took the opening rubber for Pakistan when Dineshkanthan Thangarajah was forced to retire at 46 61 42, before Harshana Godamanna put Sri Lanka back on level terms with a 76(3) 75 76(3) singles triumph against doubles expert Aisam Qureshi.

Alongside Khan, the doubles world No. 14 bounced back to defeat Godamann and Rajeev Rajapakse 62 67(0) 26 63 62 and give the visitors a welcome advantage going into Sunday's reverse singles.

Sunday's winners will be rewarded with a tie against New Zealand on April 5-7 in the hope of moving closer to promotion to Asia/Oceania Zone Group I.

Thailand leads Kuwait 2-1

Thailand clinched a thrilling doubles rubber on Saturday to give Thailand the edge over hosts Kuwait in Meshref. Prucha Isarow and Nuttanon Kadchapanan bounced back from the loss of the first set to defeat Mohammad Ghareeb and Abdullah Maqdas in four sets. The Thai duo edged two tight tiebreaks in the third and fourth sets to triumph 36 63 76(6) 76(4).

Danai Udomchoke had given the visitors the perfect start on Friday after battling past Ghareeb 61 61 46 46 64, before Maqdas came through a five-set epic of his own to put Kuwait back on level terms, defeating the Thai player 64 76(7) 36 36 61. Kuwait will bid to extend the tie to a live fifth rubber and keep their promotion hopes alive when Maqdas takes on Udomchoke in Sunday's opening reverse singles.

Philippines defeated Syria 3-0

Philippines has defeated Syria after Ruben Gonzales and Treat Conrad Huey teamed to defeat Marc Abdelnour and Issam Haitham Taweel in Saturday's doubles rubber. Gonzales and Conrad Huey dropped just three games in the first two sets and, though their Syrian opponents forced a fightback in the third, eventually rode out a 60 63 26 62 victory to give the hosts an unassailable 3-0 lead.

Johnny Arcilla and Gonzalez had already done most of the damage on Friday, beating Taweel 64 57 61 62 and Abdelnour 64 76(1) 62, respectively, in the opening singles rubbers.

Philippines will now play either Kuwait or Thailand on April 5-7 knowing that a win would put them one step closer to the goal of promotion from Asia/Oceania Zone Group II.
