LA PAZ, BOLIVIA: Bahamas showed once again that they are a solid and powerful team by overcoming Honduras to win their third point in the round-robin stage of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Americas Zone Group III event.

The win also put Bahamas top of Pool B and they will be confirmed as outright group winners if they can defeat their next opponent – Costa Rica.

The latter will go into their final tie with two wins to their name after defeating Panama 3-0 and know they have all to play for.

Bahamas is the only nation to have a perfect record in Pool B and the only hiccough against Honduras came when Keny Turcios defeated Kevin Major in the second rubber 63 63.

In the first rubber, Devin Mullings showed his power game to its full extent when he defeated Alejandro Obando 62 61. In the deciding doubles both Kevin Major and Jamaal Adderley played more consistently to conquer the Hondurans 75 63, even if the first set was more complicated.

Major said: “”It wasn’t easy. Honduras put up a good fight, but we fought back and drew level in the second rubber.”

If there was ever any doubt about the Costa Rican team it was dispelled on Thursday with a 3-0 whitewash against Panama.

In singles, Pablo Nunez had no problems defeating Walner Espinoza 64 62 before Ignaci Roca did the same against Jose Gilberto Gomez, winning 64 60.
