Stanislas Wawrinka will lead Switzerland in its Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off tie against Ecuador on 13-15 September on home soil at Patinoire du Littoral in Neuchatel.

Captain Severin Luthi has named the world No. 10 alongside Marco Chiudinelli, Henri Laaksonen and Michael Lammer for the second straight tie, but also brings in the untried Adrien Bossel as a fifth member of the squad.

Alongside Chiudinelli, Wawrinka played a heroic part in Switzerland’s dramatic 3-2 World Group first round defeat to Czech Republic in February, saving 12 match points in the doubles rubber, the longest in Davis Cup history, before ultimately losing the fifth set 24-22.

As a result of its defeat to the reigning champions, Switzerland is contesting the World Group play-offs for the ninth straight year.

The hosts can expect a stern test from Ecuador, with the visitors determined to make a return to the World Group for the first time since 2010. Julio-Cesar Campozano is likely to lead the visitors, having scored two crucial singles wins in a come-from-behind triumph over Chile to reach the play-offs.

The inclusion of Bossel in the Switzerland squad, meanwhile, is the latest piece of good news for the 26-year-old, who has made career-best strides over the past year.

Currently ranked at No. 407 in the world, Bossel came through qualifying to make his tour-level debut at Newport in July and reached a career-high ranking of No. 317 last September.

Though new to the Davis Cup, Bossel is far from the youngest member of the squad with five years on 21-year-old Laaksonen, who will hope to have a role to play in his third tie for Switzerland.
