Qatar will take on Singapore, while Turkmenistan will be up against Saudi Arabia in the fight for the two promotion spots in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Asia/Oceania Zone Group IV being played at the Dubai Aviation Club.
Both Turkmenistan and Qatar topped their pools at the end of five days of round-robin qualifying, with Turkmenistan cruising past Bahrain 3-0 after Qatar had wrapped up their group on Thursday with four wins from four.
The winners of the two ties - to be played on Saturday - will be promoted to Group III for 2014, while the two losing sides will remain in Group IV next year.
“It has been a satisfying campaign for us so far, except for that small glitch when we lost to Qatar on the opening day,” said Saudi Arabia captain, Omar Al Thagib.
“But all this belongs to the past and we need to put ourselves in a frame of mind where we can go out and play to our potential and beat Turkmenistan on Saturday. I know this won’t be easy but we will give it our best,” he added.
Also fancying their chances for promotion to Group III are Singapore who take on a tricky Qatar. “Qatar is strong and we have seen that over the past few days here,” cautioned Singapore captain Hassan Bin Bohari.
“Last year we lost to Qatar, but we are a different and stronger team this year. We will be fighting for every point."
Meanwhile, in the placement ties that will also be held on Saturday, Jordan will play Bahrain to decide fifth and sixth, Bangladesh go up against Myanmar for seventh and eighth and Iraq and Kyrgyzstan will be fighting to finish ninth in this ten–team competition.
