Italy has returned to the top of the Fed Cup Nations Ranking following its victory over Russia in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Final in Cagliari on 2-3 November.
The 2013 champions have overtaken Czech Republic to regain the No. 1 position for the first time since April 2012. Italy was previously at the head of the rankings from November 2009 – April 2012 before 2011 and 2012 winners Czech Republic ascended to the top spot.
Italy, Czech Republic, France, Russia and Slovak Republic are the only nations to have held the No. 1 position in the Fed Cup Nations Ranking.
The ITF Fed Cup Nations Ranking was launched at the end of 2002 to allow nations to compare their performance against other nations in the competition and is published following every World Group round.
The ITF Fed Cup Nations Ranking is the sole criteria for seeding at all levels of the Fed Cup competition.
