The O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic has been selected to host the 2014 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Final which will take place on 8-9 November.
This will not be the first time the O2 Arena has been awarded the honour of hosting a Fed Cup Final. It was the Czech Republic’s venue of choice in their last final appearance back in 2012. It proved a good choice back then as the Czechs, backed by a vociferous home crowd, defeated Serbia 3-1 in the final.
The Czech Republic is hoping to continue its excellent recent record in the competition. It has been crowned champions for two of the last three years and reached last year’s semifinal where it narrowly lost to eventual champions Italy.
Its opponents in the final will be Germany, who has reached the competition’s biggest match for the first time since 1992, when current captain Barbara Rittner helped Germany to victory.
The head-to-head for this final strongly favours the hosts. They have only lost on one occasion against their opponents and have won each of the other six meetings between the two. Their most recent meeting was in the 2012 World Group first round, with the Czech Republic claiming a 4-1 victory.
