It was the perfect start for hosts Iran in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Asia/Oceania Zone Group III event in Tehran as they whitewashed United Arab Emirates in front of home fans.
Shahin Khaledan and Anoosha Shahgholi put Iran on track with two singles victories before Hamid Reza Nadaf and Omid Souri completed a 3-0 victory to put their team top of Pool B after the opening day.
Lebanon, seeded No. 2, also notched up a 3-0 win against Singapore so something will have to give in the clash of the nations with perfect records in Pool B on Thursday.
In Pool A, Syria and Malaysia started well against Cambodia and Turkmenistan respectively, both coming away with 2-1 wins to move to the top of their group.
Just like in Pool B, the winning nations from the opening day in Pool A will go head-to-head on Thursday. The victor in each of those outcomes is guaranteed a place in Saturday's promotion play-offs.

In Asia/Oceania Zone Group IV, Saudi Arabia and top seeds Pacific Oceania booked their places in the promotion play-offs to reach Zone Group III with wins over Qatar and Jordan respectively.
Wins for Iraq and Mongolia on day three in Tehran put them in a better position to launch an attack on the top two spots in each group.
The winners of Pool A will play-off against the runners-up in Pool B and vice versa to determine which two nations advance to Asia/Oceania Zone Group III in 2015.
