Uruguay and Dominican Republic are tied at 1-1 going into day two's doubles in Montevideo. Marcel Felder got the home team off to the idea start on Friday with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 win over Dominican Republic's Roberto Cid but the visitors hit back in the second rubber.
Jose Hernandez renewed the Dominican challenge with an efficient 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 which ensured that the tie will still be live for Sunday's reverse singles. With the score balanced so precariously, there is everything to play for in Saturday's doubles, with Felder joining Ariel Behar for Uruguay against the Dominican pairing of Juan Berrido-Fernandez and Henry Estrella.
This is the only tie being played in Americas Zone Group One this weekend. Chile, Ecuador and Columbia all have byes into April's second round of ties and with Chile and Ecuador destined to play each other, the winner of Uruguay versus Dominican Republic can look forward to a meeting with Columbia.
