Uruguay leads Dominican Republic 2-1

- Venue: Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club
- Location: Montevideo, Uruguay
- Surface: Outdoor Clay

Uruguay nudged ahead in the tie courtesy of a 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 win for Uruguayan stalwart Marcel Felder and compatriot Ariel Behar, who proved too strong for the Dominican duo of Henry Estrella and Jose Hernandez.

With the tie level after Friday's singles, it was left to Felder and Behar to make the most of home advantage on the outdoor clay courts of the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club in Montevideo. Much to the home crowd's delight, they secured Saturday's point and put the pressure on the visitors to win both of Sunday's reverse singles matches.

Felder is scheduled to take on Hernandez in the first of Sunday's reverse singles, with Martin Cuevas turning out for the home side in the fifth rubber, against Roberto Cid.

The winner of this tie will go on to a second round meeting with Columbia in April. Columbia, Chile and Ecuador all received byes through round one, with the latter teams destined to meet each other in the second round.
