Mexico became the first team to advance to the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Americas Zone Group II third round on Saturday after a doubles win that moved them into an insurmountable 3-0 lead against Barbados.

Following a pair of singles wins on Friday, the tie continued in a similar fashion when Santiago Gonzalez and Cesar Ramirez recorded another straight sets victory for the hosts, winning 60 75 63 over Darian King and Haydn Lewis.

Mexico now march on to meet either Venezuela or Dominican Republic. The tie will take place in September and will decide which nation gains promotion to Group I for the 2013 season.

Venezuela currently trail 2-1 in their home tie against Dominican Republic, despite taking an early lead on Friday. David Souto had put the hosts ahead, but Victor Estrella claimed a straight sets victory for Dom Rep to leave the score all-square overnight.

Estrella was back in action on Saturday in the doubles rubber, partnering his younger brother Henry, and the two siblings combined to defeat Roberto Maytin and Roman Recarte 64 26 64 64, leaving the visitors just one point away from victory.

In the fight against relegation, El Salvador secured their Group II status for another year after taking a 3-0 lead over Paraguay on home soil. Another set of brothers caused the damage, Marcelo and Rafael Arevalo, who won their singles rubbers on Friday before teaming up for a doubles victory.

The result condemns Paraguay to life in Group III, while Bolivia are only one point away from joining them after they slipped 2-1 behind in their away clash with Puerto Rico.

With the score level at 1-1 after the opening singles rubbers, Alex Llompart and Gilberto Alvarez put the hosts in the driving seat by securing a doubles triumph on Saturday, defeating Mauricio Doria-Medina and Federico Zeballos 63 36 64 63.

The action continues on Sunday at all four ties with the reverse singles rubbers.
