The British Davis Cup by BNP Paribas team were given a boost on Saturday after a pair of devastating defeats on Friday had left the hosts with a mountain to climb against Russia.

Trailing 2-0 after the first day's play at the Ricoh Arena after Dan Evans and James Ward had both fallen in five sets, Britain were given a lifeline as the doubles duo of Jonny Marray and Colin Fleming ensured there were smiles all round as they cruised to an easy win 61 64 62 over Victor Baluda and Igor Kunitsyn.

Nothing more than a perfect Sunday will keep British hopes alive of reaching the World Group play-offs in September and Russia still remain favourites to clinch the tie. Watch all of the action live here.

Elsewhere in Europe/Africa Zone Group I, Netherlands earned their spot in the World Group play-offs with a 64 75 64 victory in the doubles as Robin Haase celebrated his birthday by partnering Jean-Julien Rojer to a win against Marius Copil and Victor Hanescu.

Poland put themselves in the driving seat against South Africa as Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski proved too good for Jean Andersen and Rik ded Voest to win in straight sets 75 76(2) 75.

Matkowski said: "De Voest's game did not surprise us at all. Andersen played really well. Most of his errors were forced. We had to pressure him to make a mistake. It was a very tight match. We are very happy to be through in three sets."

South African captain John-Laffnie de Jager was disappointed with the loss but remained optimistic saying: "We are 1-2 today but you need three points to win a tie. So it's not over yet. We've got two more matches to play.

"We saw Jerzy play on Friday so we will sit down and make a game plan for tomorrow. Anything can happen. He can break a leg for instance. So the tie is not over yet."

In Ukraine, there is an upset on the cards as Sweden took a 2-1 lead against Ukraine with a win for Johan Brunstrom and Robert Lindstedt in the doubles against Denys Molchanov and Sergiy Stakhovsky.
