This year’s Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Final, televised by host broadcaster TVE, was watched by more people in Spain than any previous Spanish Davis Cup tie.

World No. 2 Rafael Nadal led Spain to an enthralling 3-1 victory over Argentina at the Olympic Stadium in Seville, and the drama of his epic win against Juan Martin del Potro in the deciding fourth rubber was the catalyst for peak figures.

TVE had an average audience of 4 million viewers during the Final, but the “golden minute” came on Sunday at 17:21 local time when Nadal’s winning moment was watched by 6.2 million viewers, a 41.4% share of the total TV audience.

It’s estimated that half of the Spanish population tuned in at some point during the Final, and even the post-match show attracted 5.3 million spectators.
