Marcos Baghdatis led Cyprus to a place in the Europe/Africa Zone Group II second round in April with a 3-2 victory over Morocco. The former Australian Open finalist won both his singles and doubles rubbers to secure victory for the hosts and set up a second round clash with Ukraine, who thrashed Monaco 5-0.

Latvia and Hungary both won the reverse singles rubbers on the final day to progress to the next round where they will face off against each other. World No. 71 Ernests Gulbis helped Latvia to dispose of Egypt 3-2 while Hungary defeated Ireland 3-2.

Belarus defeated Moldova 4-1 for a place in the last eight of Europe/Africa Group II where they will face Bosnia/Herzegovina on 6-8 April. Amer Delic’s third point of the weekend put Bosnia/Herzegovina safely through the next round at the expense of Turkey, who will meet Moldova in the relegation play-off in April.

Estonia and Poland continued their dominate form with 5-0 whitewashings of Luxembourg and Madagascar respectively to set up a meeting in the second round.
