Uruguay defeated Dominican Republic 3-1 after Marcel Felder sealed the winning point in the first reverse singles match in Montevideo. Felder needed three hours 42 minutes to get the better of Jose Hernandez 63 36 63 57 62 and secure his nation a second round tie away against Colombia.
The Uruguayans have made it to the second round of the Americas Zone Group II tie for the last three years but will be hoping for a better result this time around.
