Japanese head back to Ariake Coliseum

Ariake Coliseum

Japan has opted to play its Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off against Colombia in the familiar surroundings of the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo.

Four of Japan's last five Davis Cup ties have taken place on the hard courts of the Ariake Colisuem and the only defeat there came at the same stage of the competition when Japan was left stunned by Israel's Amir Weintraub in September last year.

It is a seventh consecutive home tie for Japan, who are playing Colombia for the first time when the two sides look to book their place in the top tier for 2014.

The venue for the World Group play-off between Croatia and Great Britain was announced on Monday, with the eastern European nation choosing to play on clay in Umag in a move that is expected to counter the effectiveness of world No. 3 Andy Murray.

Netherlands will play Austria on indoor clay at the MartiniPlaza in Groningen as the Dutch team looks to get back into the World Group for the first time since 2009.

The RFET has been granted an extension until 10 May before it is decided where Spain plays Ukraine. The remaining four World Group play-offs have all been granted extensions until 17 May.
