David Nalbandian has been forced to pull out of the US Open due to injury. He has released the following statement:

As a result of an injury in the intercostal region suffered during training, David decided together with his team to unsubscribe Edition 2012 US Open, both in singles and in doubles.

Nalbandian plans to return to the country in the coming days, to perform a series of studies that determine the severity of the injury and to thus define times for their recovery.

On the point, David said: "I am very sorry not to be able to participate of the last Grand Slam of the season, and I hope to be present in the Cup series against Czech Republic Davis in September".

Nalbandian has become one of the integral parts of the Argentine team since making his Davis Cup by BNP Paribas debut in 2002. He regularly plays both singles and doubles and has an excellent record in both.

As one of the older players, the influence that he has in the team cannot be overstated. He has won 37 of his 48 Davis Cup matches including 23 of 29 singles rubbers. In this year’s Davis Cup, he has won 3 of the 4 matches he has played. His one defeat came at the hands of Marin Cilic in the quarterfinal in a thrilling five set match.

Nalbandian has played in three of Argentina’s four final appearances and has won four of the six matches he has played in those finals and is undefeated in singles.

Argentina captain Martin Jaite will be hoping that Nalbandian recovers in time for their semifinal showdown with the Czech Republic on 14 September which will be held in Parque Roca in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
