April's Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off between Australia and Switzerland will take place on outdoor clay at the Tennis Club Chiasso in southern Switzerland after both nations came to an agreement to move the tie.
Tennis Australia was originally awarded choice of ground, but the Fed Cup Committee has approved a proposal by the two nations to switch the tie to Switzerland. As part of the agreement, Australia will now have choice of ground on the next two occasions that Australia and Switzerland meet in Fed Cup.
The move pleased new Swiss captain Heinz Guenthardt, who felt that playing on a European outdoor clay court made perfect sense for all the players involved given the time of year.
He added: "Obviously we prefer to play at home, where we have our fantastic public behind us."
The winner of the tie will compete in the World Group in 2012 with the loser contesting World Group II next year.
This is the second consecutive year that Australia and Switzerland have met in Fed Cup. The Australians won 4-1 in a World Group II first round clash last year, which was played at Fribourg.
The last time Switzerland defeated Australia was in 1983. Australia lead their head-to-head with the Swiss 5-1.
The Tennis Club Chiasso will also play host to an ITF $25,000 tournament the week after Fed Cup formalities have finished.
